About The Member

I learned to use a sewing machine at an early age as I grew up in a household with two sewing machines. My mother had an electric singer sewing machine which she received as a wedding gift. My grandmother had a small hand-cranked machine. I was not allowed to use the electric machine but nanny allowed me to make dolls My first two purchases when I began working were a sewing machine and a camera. I joined a quilting guild in 2013 and began making quilts using traditional methods. I have made a lot of quilts since then. In 2016 I did a workshop with Karen Martin on landscape quilting. Since 2020 I have dabbled in landscape quilting. I don’t usually follow patterns. I like to do my own thing. I am fascinated with Saltbox houses and usually include one in a piece as a starting point and then let the fabric lead the way. I have photographed a lot of rural Newfoundland so I grab ideas from my photos. I mostly use 100% cotton fabric but lately I have been playing with other fabrics such as raw silk as well as various yarns. I use raw edge applique and free motion quilting.
