About the Opportunity

Job Title: Summer Gallery Assistant

Location: Craft Council Gallery, 155 Water Street
Hours: Full-Time / Seasonal. 30 - 35 hours per week from June - August. Daytime hours. Must be available to work weekends.

The Craft Council Gallery showcases contemporary handmade works by local and regional artists. We are passionate about fostering connection between makers and the community through thoughtfully curated exhibitions and events.

Position Summary:
We’re looking for a friendly, reliable, and art-loving individual to join our team this summer! As a Gallery Assistant, you'll be the welcoming face of the gallery — engaging with visitors, sharing artist and exhibition info, and supporting the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our space vibrant and dynamic.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors and offer information about current exhibitions and featured artists
  • Monitor and maintain a welcoming, clean, and secure gallery environment
  • Assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions
  • Support daily operations including sales and answering inquiries
  • Help with opening/closing procedures and light administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • Friendly, approachable, and comfortable speaking with the public
  • Interest in craft, design, or contemporary art
  • Ability to handle artwork safely and responsibly (training provided)
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Prior gallery, retail, or customer service experience is a plus but not required
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs
  • Must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs
