About This Event

"When we look to the earth and to nature to supply us with materials, resources, and inspiration, we have to consider how we affect nature by our needs. Throughout our lives we need to treat our environment like delicate cloth, to be held gently and respectfully, and not overwork it. Natural diversity is integral to Newfoundland and Labrador culture and we feel it is every person’s responsibility to take time and appreciate what is around us; what came before us and what should remain after us. Nature Study in Cloth is a textile-based show including graduates of the College of the North Atlantic's Textile & Apparel Design Program (1982-2020). Susan Furneaux and Stephanie Stoker called out to alumni to submit proposals for work in the creation of handmade cloth inspired by the Bruton Memorial Book of Nature I &II (Bruton, F.A. & Johnson, N.M (1932). Nature Study in Cloth will consist of hand-made, dyed or embellished cloth, in respect of the book’s content all materials will be natural fibres and dyes with hand-controlled techniques." (This exhibition is supported the College of the North Atlantic)
