Instructor: Joanne O'Leary

With dynamic glaze combinations, there's no rush .... it's all in the brush. This one-night workshop focuses on using your own commercial brush on cone 5/6 glazes to create dynamic and colourful layering techniques. Because this course is only one night, there will be bisque-fired horizontal and vertical forms available to glaze. This workshop does not cover detailed chemistry behind the glazing process, nor does it cover dipping and pouring glazes (that’s a different course). This workshop will demonstrate to the beginner potter how to create colourful layering effects using brush on glazing techniques. Specific topics include, types of brush on glaze, base layer glazes, top layering glazes and special effects using fluxing glazes. Both textured pieces and smooth surfaces will be covered as the results vary depending on the surface of the piece and desired effect. Included in the workshop fee are one free open studio hour, supervised by the instructor, to provide students the opportunity to ask questions. Glazes are not included in this course. Students are required to bring their own commercial glazes. The instructor will have a few samples available.
